In April of 2019, residents of the City of Miami Gardens graduated from the first ever Miami Gardens’ Citizens Police Academy. With dynamic leadership led under the helm of a woman of color, the ins and outs of the functions, operations, management and controversies behind one of the country’s most sensationalized police departments are revealed. In September, teenagers will fill the seats of the next Citizen’s Police Academy at the Miami Gardens Police Department. With your support, we can document their story. Will these teenagers and police officers throw blows in a first ever police academy battle riot, or will they successfully team up to curb youth crime and excessive use of police force in their community?
