The Schwabinger Krawalle where a riot in Schwabing (Munich) in 1962, where students and other young people fought during 5 nights with the local police. It started because 5 musicians played on the streets after 10.00 pm. Neighbours complained and called the police. The police wanted to arrest the musicians, but the audience prevented it, so the two police-men called for more police and the riot started. More people gathered on the following nights on the streets of Schwabing and the police was completely unable to cope with these thousands
of young people, apart from making extensive use of the truncheon. So a bloody riot began, that was only stopped by the rain after the fifth night.
In 2007 we made with uncertainty-produktion a re-enactment of this riot at the original street in munich. From the video footage of this re-enactment, an evening of theory in a theatre and original footage from the 60s we produced this two channel installation.
