On Monday, October 6, 2008, Algonquins of Barriere Lake blockaded highway 117 at 6am. Their demands were that the governments of Canada and Quebec honour agreements they had previously signed with the community and send an observer to oversee a new leadership selection process and respect the outcome.
At 4pm, riot police cleared the road using tear gas. No negotiations were attempted by either government.
