On May 29, 2020, at approximately 1623 hours, a traffic crash occurred in Lake Forest, Illinois. Upon arrival, the officer observed heavy front-end damage to the Nissan Xterra and minimal rear damage to the Chevrolet Express box truck. The officer spoke with the driver of the Nissan, later identified as Edert Callejas. Callejas exhibited slurred speech and appeared to be acting erratically.
The officer then asked Callejas for his license and insurance information, but Callejas refused to talk to him. When questioned further, Callejas again refused to provide any information about his identity or the registered owner of the vehicle. Callejas repeatedly cut off the officer, raised his voice, and insisted that it was his right to refuse to identify himself.
