Ep. 1: Roads of a Fallen City (Proof of Concept).
Set in an Alternate Universe, during a tense stand-off between the riot police and occupy central protestors an unidentified man releases an airborne virus that rapidly infects the entire city within weeks and sets off a chain of events.
Months after the incident, a small group of survivors sought refuge on the outskirts of the city, on a remote beach. But their haven is about to be disrupted when a man and his small boat wash ashore, triggering fear and paranoia among them as the possibility of more outsiders discovering their new home arises. They have until nightfall to battle their moral conscience and decide whether to let the man live or, kill him to protect themselves and their new home at any cost.
This no-budget short film also acts as the first episode of a potential web series and also a proof-of-concept film, serving as a set-up for the main plot which will focus solely on the group of survivors in future episodes. The series’ premise can be summed up as Rio Bravo meets Rashomon meets Assault on Precinct 13.
Each episode will represent a particular character’s point of view or perspective and how he/she reacts to the situation, much like Kurosawa’s Rashomon; and each episode will take place in real-time, covering an hour of the day in the story, leading to nightfall.
The proposed series is no longer in development as of today, and this proof-of-concept film is all that’s left of it.
