This video is a horrific demonstration of the brutality the Sudan has legalized and justified through Article 152, a law introduced under Omar al-Bashir that allows any woman to be arrested on charges of “Fadih”, religiously inappropriate conduct or dress. The article is vague by design, allowing government forces to arrest any woman whose work in activism, journalism, or political opposition threatens their corrupt hold on power. This gross subversion of justice is all too evident in Bashir’s verbal support for this abuse. In a statement, the president said that this young girl, only 17 years old, deserved to be beaten because she has brought stigma upon herself.
