On September 9, 2023, at approximately 1:52 PM, the Ventnor City, New Jersey, Police Department received a call from a concerned citizen reporting a disturbance involving a vehicle. The caller indicated that an individual had struck a trash can, a vehicle, and a house before entering someone’s backyard. Officer Raymond Aiuto and Sergeants James Franco and Hommy Quinones were dispatched to investigate.
Upon arrival, as captured in this video, officers found the suspect hiding in a shed on the property where his vehicle was abandoned, parked against the house as described by the caller. The investigation revealed that the suspect was acquainted with the homeowner and had permission to be on the property. However, he was found to be intoxicated and was subsequently arrested for driving under the influence (DUI).
A breath sample provided by the suspect indicated a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.11%. While in a holding cell, the suspect intentionally clogged the toilet with a roll of toilet paper, resulting in an additional charge of disorderly conduct.
The suspect was charged with DUI, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to report an accident, reckless driving, improper backing and disorderly conduct. He was later released to a third party under potential liability.
On April 29, 2024, the driver appeared in court and pled guilty to the DUI charges. Consequently, the remaining offenses were merged and dismissed as part of a plea agreement. The driver was fined $790 and received a license suspension for a period of seven months.
