On Sunday, September 29, 2024, police officers were alerted by the security staff of a bar on Duval Street regarding a male subject trespassing. Upon arrival, they encountered Jonathan, who was irate and shouting. During the initial interaction, he placed his hand in the officer’s face. The officer attempted to create space by placing a hand on Jonathan’s chest, but Jonathan swatted it away aggressively. In response, the officers pushed him back to maintain distance. Jonathan’s wife and friends tried to guide him away while he continued to yell, prompting an audible gasp from the crowd that had gathered.
As the police attempted to place Jonathan in handcuffs, he resisted and pulled away. Eventually, he was brought to the ground in a controlled manner, but he continued to resist when instructed to put his hands behind his back. After issuing verbal commands, the officers were finally able to secure him in handcuffs. He was escorted to the patrol car, where his belongings were searched. Multiple witnesses expressed their offense at his behavior.
Jonathan was then transported to the Monroe County Detention Center. Based on the facts and evidence, the police had probable cause to believe that he intentionally violated Florida State Statute 877.03 for disorderly conduct by engaging in actions that corrupted public morals and outraged public decency. He was also found to have violated Florida State Code 843.02 by refusing to allow officers to handcuff him and pulling away. He was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, with a court date scheduled for later in October.
