“Looking ahead, as we plan for our 2020 activities, AMISOM will be expected to first review its 2019 MIP. Apart from being a critical requirement for preparing our supplementary budget, reviewing the 2019 MIP allows the mission to adjust its activities in line with the new operational and strategic realities in Somalia since last February when we adopted the current MIP.”

“Let us consciously be aware at the back of our minds that that’s why we are supposed to produce this Mission Implementation Plan (MIP). It [MIP], therefore, has a significance that it is a tool to indicate how we are going to proceed. It is also a tool that the management is going to be using more frequently as a monitoring and evaluation tool. What is it that we intend to do, how do we intend to do it (and) whether we can do it.”

It is Kenya’s strong desire to have a peaceful, stable and prosperous Somalia and on behalf of the Government of Kenya, I want to laud AMISOM for the critical role it continues to play in Somalia, particularly in the fight against Al-Shabaab; and for all the achievements it has realized to date. We also pay tribute to the Troop and Police Contributing Countries and in particular to our gallant women and men who served in AMISOM and paid the ultimate price in the quest to stabilize, to reconcile and bring security and peace to Somalia and indeed to our horn region and to the African continent.”
