Clearly, Al-Shabaab will do anything and everything to attract your attention and media headlines. “Let me just quickly tell you about what we may consider as the outlook for 2015. It will be a year in which AMISOM continue to pursue its mandate of ensuring a safe and secure Somalia. It will also be a year which will be the homestretch for the 2016 elections and so there will be a lot of thought on achieving the peace and statebuilding goals outlined in the New Deal Compact. From a security perspective, the effort to rid Somalia of any remnants elements of Al-Shabaab shall be pursued relentlessly. But lets not also forget the people in the newly recovered areas, here we will support the Federal Government to ensure that this area receives the support they need. So through you, I would like to appeal to the International community to come to the aid of these people in theses areas. Their needs are immediate, they cannot wait until tomorrow. I would like to also assure you that we will continue to support the capacity building enhancement of the Somali National army and the Somali National Police. This is at the core of the AMISOM exit strategy.”
