On Dec. 13, 2023, KULT News visited Ypsilanti and Ann Arbor, MI to see if the locals recognized and respected our First Amendment rights.
We also visit the infamous “Brick Dick” in Ypsilanti as well as the “Field of Waves” on the University of Michigan campus created by designer and sculptor Maya Lin.
[NOTE: According to the Ann Arbor Police Department, there was no recorded call to dispatch made by the woman seen calling police at the end of this video. Could she have faked the call in a failed effort to scare me? Did she call a non-emergency number? What do YOU think?]
If you want to skip the previews (aka spoiler alerts) then skip to the 0:35 second mark in the video.

Often using police body camera footage, 911 call recordings, and covert camera angles, with a few laughs thrown in, KULT News is a First Amendment audit channel you won’t soon forget. Enjoy the deer-in-the-headlights looks as incompetent cops see a mild-mannered citizen just out taking photos turn into a news reporter well-versed on his Constitutional rights right before their eyes.

Laws may vary but, generally speaking, in the United States, if you are in public you are legally able to photograph whatever you can see. Simply put, your eyes can’t be trespassed. Obviously there are some restrictions on this (i.e., bathrooms, dressing rooms, most courtrooms, locker rooms, etc.) but very few when you are in public. If you can see it, you can shoot it (this rule only applies to cameras.) This is not legal advice.
