The H Street corridor in Northeast D.C., home to Mosaic Theater at the Atlas Performing Arts Center, is a window into the rapidly changing landscape of DC neighborhoods. In 1968, the corridor was devastated by the riots, and its recent transformation comes with complicated, profound implications. From Ben’s Chili Bowl to the DC Streetcar to HIPS, where do the businesses, neighbors and cultural leaders land on the shifting ground. With over a million square feet of development taking place along the corridor, what ways can we preserve the cultural richness, archive the history, and envision an equitable future for H Street?
