BEI BEI is the latest film in a series of documentaries focusing on the transformative struggles of individual women engaged in legal, political and cultural battles that revolve around sexuality, reproductive health and justice. This documentary has two extraordinary women at its center: one, a Chinese immigrant charged with first degree murder after attempting suicide while pregnant, and the other, a successful white collar lawyer who unwittingly finds herself defending a woman against legally unprecedented charges. Jil Adams, of the SIA Legal Team and Berkeley Center on Reproductive Law and Justice, writes “BEI BEI provides a compassionate, justice-centered look at the devastating effects of being labeled a criminal, even for people eventually vindicated by the system.
