Bloomsburg-
Hundreds of students began celebrating Barack Obama’s historic election win on the campus of Bloomsburg University around 11:30 PM Tuesday.
Students initially gathered in front of Elwell Hall and began a parade towards Main Street with the crowd growing in size as it made its way through Bloomsburg.
Police called in backup from surrounding departments and put on riot gear in preparation for the unplanned event.
However unlike the incident last weekend at the homecoming dance this was a peaceful celebration.
Students eventually made their way past Bloomsburg Democratic Party headquarters and gathered around the fountain at Market Street. The celebration continued at the fountain for a few minutes and then the students paraded back towards campus to the steps of Carver Hall where hundreds gathered. One student said a few words to the crowd as they cheered “Obama” after his statement. Students eventually left without altercation or major incident from the celebration and returned home.
