I had never heard of Boxwars until I experienced their fun filled cardboard mayhem and destruction at the BOOGIE Festival this year at Tallarook. The theme was a World War 1 dogfight duel to the death, complete with elaborate biplanes aircraft designs made from cardboard and even a zeppelin!
For my previous Boxwars video from the Boogie Festival, back in April 2011:
Boxwars is a collection of warriors engaging in an action packed battles, clad in fantastical cardboard amour of limitless design and concept.
Taking this bold idea from a few and mixing it up with interpretation of many, Boxwars is an enduring testament to imagination & resourcefulness.
The original Boxwars started right here in Melbourne and now has a worldwide following, including official chapters in places such as Scotland and Canada!
Traditionally on BOXING DAY (appropriately) they have a battle. The theme of Boxwars number 17 is “Taking It From The People”. Featuring a castle, some cardboard clad coppers, businessmen beatin’ up a little girl (BOOO!) and the destruction of the riot police tank. I would rather watch this than a boring cricket match on Boxing Day.
Boxwars coming at the Woodford Folk Festival in late December 2011 and Boogie 6 in Tullarook in early April 2012.
