On January 10th, 2023, at around 3:43 am, officers in Ohio, were called to the CVS located on Clifton Blvd, following a report of a disorderly woman, later identified as Rebecca Houp, causing havoc inside the store and throwing items at the store manager.
Upon arrival, officers found Houp outside the CVS, who appeared intoxicated and agitated with officers. Houp accused the officers of assault despite showing no signs of physical harm. The store manager gave her statement to the officers, stating that Houp stormed into the CVS, asking her to alert the police. When asked why she wanted to call the police, Houp became hostile, making accusations of assault towards unknown people.
Houp became enraged as she started throwing objects at the manager, including a cactus plant in a ceramic pot. The manager was not hurt in the incident; however, she wanted to press charges against Houp.
She was charged with Criminal Damaging or Endangering, Disorderly Conduct, Assault On A Police Officer, and Harassment By Inmate.
After the arrest, an officer responded to the female cell block to process Rebecca Houp. Upon arrival, the officer noticed Rebecca leaning over the toilet, appearing unwell. Concerned, the officer inquired if she was alright. Rebecca responded, ‘I’m just hung over as hell.’ As fingerprinting began, Rebecca mentioned her right hand was in pain. Realizing the discomfort, the officer apologized, but Rebecca stated, ‘I did it to myself.’
Prosecutor Fleck reviewed the video footage and facts of the case. He approved the issuance of citations to Houp for Attempt Harassment by Inmate, Assault x 3, Criminal Damaging and DCl.
