Cops are NOT required to tell you that they’re investigating you. For all you know, they could be getting a witness statement from you, or they could be interrogating you. This is why most lawyers will suggest you don’t talk to the police without your lawyer present, just to ensure your rights are being protected (even if you are 100% innocent).
