18 illegal immigrants have been arrested, and counterfeit alcohol confiscated during a female-led roadblock in Jozini, northern KwaZulu-Natal.
The operation, which also pays tribute to Women’s Day, is part of ongoing efforts to combat cross-border crime in the area.
The provincial Transport Department reports that last year, at least 30 vehicles per month were stolen and smuggled across the border into Mozambique. With hijackings, robberies, and murders on the rise, the provincial MEC for Transport, Siboniso Duma, led the roadblock, targeting counterfeit alcohol smuggled from neighbouring countries like eSwatini and Lesotho
