In Japan, police generally handle incidents involving violent drunk behavior by first attempting to deescalate the situation and persuade the individual to calm down and leave the area peacefully. If that is not possible, they may make an arrest and charge the individual with disorderly conduct or assault. Depending on the severity of the incident, they may also take the individual to a hospital for a medical examination and treatment. In some cases, the individual may also be required to attend a rehabilitation program for alcohol addiction.
