One of the newest misconceptions circling the internet is people claiming they don’t need a driver’s license to operate a vehicle. They say since it’s not in the constitution, they aren’t required to have a license, or insurance for that matter. Let me break it down:
Public roads are owned by either the state or the federal government. Because you’re driving on THEIR property, you must identify yourself and prove you are licensed to operate a vehicle on their property. Each state has different language, but usually, when you get your driver’s license, you usually sign a contract stating that you will identify yourself on public roadways. So, don’t listen to the internet on this one. You MUST identify yourself to the cops if you have been pulled over.
