Douglas Murray continues his analysis of the recent UK riots by addressing what he sees as the fundamental issues fueling the unrest. “All of this is the consequence of what I call the problem of primary and secondary problems,” Murray begins.
He explains that the primary problem in the UK, as in Europe, has been the “total unwillingness of the political and other classes in the UK to address deep, deep concerns of the public.”
Murray suggests that the widespread unrest and the tragic events that preceded it are symptoms of a larger, unresolved issue: the persistent neglect of public sentiment by those in power. According to him, this disregard has created a volatile environment where misinformation and fear can easily escalate into widespread chaos.
