On December 16th 2023, Santa Fe Sheriff’s Office respond to a call from Pojoaque Tribal Police about a suspect being detained after becoming combative and disorderly following her boyfriend’s DUI arrest in the parking lot of a casino. Pojoaque Police were originally called to investigate a hostile argument happening in the parking lot between the suspect and boyfriend. When they arrive, they observe the boyfriend in the driver’s seat of their vehicle with keys in the ignition. This prompts Pojoaque police to conduct a DUI investigation and subsequently, have probable cause to arrest the boyfriend who is under their tribal jurisdiction. The female suspect then becomes increasingly vocal and hostile towards the officers, resulting in them detaining the suspect and then contacting Santa Fe Sheriff’s Department since the female suspect is non-native and not under their jurisdiction to apprehend and process.
The video begins with Santa Fe Sheriff’s Department arriving on scene to take over and resolve the issue with the female suspect. Suspect is upset throughout interaction. Santa Fe officers attempt to offer suspect a ride home which she either doesn’t accept or refuses to hear. Tensions escalate and eventually suspect attempts to drive off in vehicle after being warned not to do so after admitting earlier she had consumed a generous amount of alcohol. Suspect is then placed under arrest and booked into custody. Suspect refuses field sobriety tests as well as breathalyzer tests. Case is still pending.
