On January 17, 2024, at approximately 6 p.m., Sgt. Edward Sellick and Police Officer Brandon Fitzgibbons responded to the W Hotel, 225 River St., on reports of a disorderly and drunk male refusing to leave. The man, later identified as 48-year-old Ronald Peck, Jr., of Hoboken, was located and escorted away from the hotel by the officers. He was advised not to return, but several minutes later, the officers saw him walk back into the building. Due to his rambling and smelling of alcoholic beverage, officers believed he needed medical attention and called the Hoboken Volunteer Ambulance Corps who transported Peck to Hoboken University Medical Center. Once there, he obstructed the emergency doors by standing in the entranceway refusing to go inside or exit the doorframe. Lt. David Olivera and Police Officers Harold Milne and Mark Mooreman arrived on scene to assist. While officers attempted to reason with Peck, he approached Lt. Olivera aggressively by walking directly at him. Officers eventually began to guide Peck to the emergency room, but he became uncooperative. Peck then aggressively approached the officers and reached into his backpack. Officers placed him under arrest and a search incident to arrest found a 10-inch blade in Peck’s backpack. Peck was transported to Hoboken Police Department for processing, received a summons for the charge of harassment, and was released.
