“elements of peaceful riot” is a poster series that deals with forms of peaceful civil disobedience and resistance. All forms depicted were and are used during the Hong Kong mass protests against the proposed fugitive offenders amendment bill. The bill was intended, among other things, to allow extradition of prisoners with which Hong Kong did not have extradition agreements, including mainland China and Taiwan. Temporarily 25 percent of Hong Kong’s population took to the streets during the protests. Due to the harsh action of the police against the demonstrators and explicit threats of military force by the Chinese central government, the initially peaceful demonstrations increasingly developed into a violent popular uprising.
