Entitled Teen Throws a Tantrum and Targets a Disabled Woman

News Report Below –
A Nokomis man will be arraigned Aug. 23 on a charge of abuse of an elderly or disabled person for allegedly attacking a woman in a wheelchair in Sarasota.

Kaleb Scott Holland, 18, 600 block of Portia St., Nokomis, also faces charges of resisting an officer and disorderly intoxication. He’s free on a $6,150 bond.

According to a probable cause affidavit, a Sarasota Police Department officer was flagged down by a security officer at 3:05 a.m. July 7 at 1451 1st St. regarding a battery on a woman by a male wearing a gray shirt.

The officer observed a male, later identified as Holland, who fled as the officer approached despite being told to stop running.

The victim was on the ground near where Holland had been observed. The affidavit says she was screaming for help and yelled that Holland had hit her. He was apprehended trying to enter a locked door in the area.

The security officer said the victim had been sleeping in her wheelchair when Holland approached her and began battering her, the affidavit stated. She said she woke up when Holland put his hands around her throat.

After she slapped his hands away, he began to punch her, then grabbed her by the hair, pulled her out of her wheelchair, and dragged her down the sidewalk, according to the affidavit.

Holland’s shirt and hat came off during the incident, it says.

Holland told the officer he was walking home from work when the woman punched him in the face, so he defended himself. He didn’t believe it when the officer told him the woman was in a wheelchair, it says.

Later, he denied knowing about the incident, though he acknowledged that the shirt and hat found at the scene were his. He told the officer he took them off “for an unknown reason,” the affidavit says.

When the officer told Holland he thought the incident happened because Holland was drunk, he allegedly responded, “Well, I definitely am drunk,” it says.

Abuse of an elderly or disabled person is a felony. The other two charges are misdemeanors.
