The mayor of the Umhlathuze local municipality, Xolani Ngwezi, says they plan to intensify roadblocks over the festive season.
Today, a multi-disciplinary roadblock was staged on John Ross Highway to enforce traffic rules and regulations.
It included law enforcement agencies and the South African National Taxi Council.
The highway is a corridor to Richards Bay and Empangeni in northern KwaZulu-Natal, which has seen several accidents this year.
Two undocumented foreign nationals were arrested during the roadblock.
