In India, police clashed with farmers and their supporters, who were marching to New Delhi to demand that the government fulfill its pledge to pay them more for their crops.
On Tuesday, Indian police used tear gas to disperse the protesters and detained several demonstrators calling for higher prices for their produce.
“See how peacefully the farmers are marching, yet the police are dropping tear gas shells from drones hovering in the sky,” said Sarvan Singh Pandher, General Secretary of Punjab Kisan Mazdoor (Punjab Farmers’ Union).
The protests come ahead of national elections in which farmers are expected to form an influential voting bloc.
