Bodycam Footage Of An Alleged Intoxicated Man Pointing Flare Gun At FWC Officers During 2024 Gasparilla Parade.
Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation (FWC) officers encountered an incident involving an alleged intoxicated man pointing a flare gun. While conducting water patrol on a marked vessel, the officers observed a blue and white Yamaha vessel operating dangerously close to the shoreline and other boats. They activated emergency lights to conduct a stop on the vessel registered to [REDACTED].
Approaching the vessel, officers instructed the operator, identified as [REDACTED], to put the boat in neutral. Instead, the operator reversed sharply towards the patrol vessel. Upon boarding, officers requested safety equipment including life jackets, registration, and a fire extinguisher. During the inspection, [REDACTED] initially attempted to hand over cash before providing the necessary documents and life jackets for the eight occupants.
As the inspection continued, [REDACTED] produced a flare gun and despite warnings, pointed it in the direction of officers multiple times. Officers noted signs of impairment and requested [REDACTED] to undergo Standardized Field Sobriety Tasks (SFSTs), to which he consented and was subsequently arrested for boating under the influence.
Following the arrest, the vessel was released to [REDACTED]’s wife and another passenger. [REDACTED] was read his Miranda Rights and transported to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office Substation, where he refused to submit to a breath test after being read implied consent.
