This ‘Taking Liberties’ video was created as part of the Anarchy In The UK element for the ‘Peace Is Tough’ Exhibition held in New York during 1997.
Jamie created the artwork for the ‘Taking Liberties’ album, which was produced as a protest against the Criminal Justice Bill. Jamie states live on radio that despite some of the controversial artwork he has created during his career, he is not an anarchist.
According to mainstream media, the Criminal Justice Bill riots which occurred in London’s Park Lane during 1994, was allegedly incited by a small group of anarchists known as ‘Class War’.
However, this video footage was later used by The Law Society and The Coalition Against The Criminal Justice Bill as court evidence to prove the riots were actually instigated by the London Metropolitan Police. As a result, all criminal charges against members of the public where dropped.
Evidently, keeping the peace is tough!
