Jung Brutal Gutaussehend Video 2011-2014
Als Reaktion auf den Ausbruch des „Arabischen Frühling“ einer Serie von Protesten, Aufständen und Revolutionen in der Arabischen Welt, versammelt “Jung Brutal Gutaussehend” 122 YouTube- Amateur- Videos. Gezeigt wird ein Portrait der (Selbst)- Darstellung von Männern in jüngster Zeit, politisch motivierte Aufstände, die Zerschlagung derer, sowie die Durchsetzung von Staatsmacht.
Ursprünglich wurden die Youtube Filme als eine art Tagebuch (weitere Serien nach dem selben Prinzip “Siebzehn Jahr blondes Haar” und “Saustall”) auf Facebook veröffentlicht.
Milliarden von Videos und Posts treffen auf hunderte Millionen von potentiellen NutzerInnen und ZuschauerInnen, wodurch YouTube und Facebook zu einer enormen Definitionsmacht werden..
Das Videoportal YouTube wurde als Sammelbecken von öffentlichen Äusserungen und Darstellungen ausgewählt.
Weil es ein Ort der „Community“ ist, die dort publizierten Videos also auch für die Community gemacht sind, abseits vom, aber gleichzeitig zum „offiziellen“ Video-Strom.

„Young, Savage, and Handsome“
„Young, Savage, and Handsome“ assembles 122 YouTube amateur videos in response to the outbreak of the „Arab Spring“, a series of protests, uprisings and revolutions in the Arab world. The collection portrays recent (self)representations of men, politically motivated riots as well as their suppression, and the enforcement of state power.
The YouTube clips were originally posted as a kind of diary on Facebook (similar series, posted according to the same principle are „Sweet Sixteen“ and „Pigsty“).
Billions of videos and postings meet with hundreds of millions of possible users and onlookers – lending YouTube and Facebook extraordinary power of definition.
YouTube was the obvious choice as a reservoir of public expression and representations – a space of „Community“, where the videos produced for the Community exist beyond but simultaneously with the „offical“ stream of videos, the „mainstream“.
