Mel Gibson Criticizes Kamala Harris’ Competency, Endorses Donald Trump
Hollywood’s engagement in the 2024 presidential election has been notably active, with celebrities like Bruce Springsteen, Eminem, Julia Roberts, and Spike Lee showing their support for Kamala Harris. However, another prominent figure has publicly aligned himself with former President Donald Trump—Mel Gibson. The actor and director voiced his support while expressing sharp criticism of Vice President Kamala Harris.
Gibson’s Candid Comments on Harris
In a candid moment captured on video and published by TMZ, Gibson shared his thoughts with a cameraman while at an airport, just before heading towards a TSA checkpoint. When asked whom he supports in the upcoming election, Gibson hinted at his political stance, stating, “I don’t think it’s going to surprise anyone who I vote for.” The cameraman guessed, “Trump?” to which Gibson responded, “I think that’s a pretty good guess.”
Gibson went on to voice his dissatisfaction with Harris, stating, “I know what it’ll be like if we let her in. And that ain’t good. Miserable track record. No policies to speak of. She’s got the IQ of a fence post.” The actor’s remarks echo a recurring theme in Trump’s criticism of Harris, where he has frequently labeled her as a “low IQ” candidate during his campaign stops.
Trump and Gibson’s Public Admiration
This public statement by Gibson reinforces the alignment between him and Trump, whose admiration for the actor has been publicly noted. Earlier this year, Trump shared a meme on his social media platform, Truth Social, featuring a dual image of Gibson—one portraying him as a clean-cut figure and another as the rugged hero from Braveheart. Trump captioned the images, respectively representing his 2016 and 2024 support for the former president, accompanied by the text, “Either way, Mel Gibson is GREAT!”
The camaraderie between Trump and Gibson isn’t entirely new. In 2021, Gibson was seen saluting Trump at a UFC event, an act that attracted widespread media attention.
Gibson’s Past and Professional Rebound
Mel Gibson, a major Hollywood star of the late 20th century and the Oscar-winning director behind Braveheart, has often found himself at the center of controversy. After the immense success of The Passion of the Christ and Apocalypto, the actor’s career hit a roadblock when he was arrested for a DUI in 2006. During the arrest, Gibson made anti-Semitic remarks, a controversy that further deepened in 2010 with the release of tapes documenting him making racist statements to his then-girlfriend, Oksana Grigorieva. She later accused Gibson of physical abuse.
Despite these setbacks, Gibson reemerged as a Hollywood player in 2016 with the war film Hacksaw Ridge, which earned him an Academy Award nomination for directing. His comeback solidified his return to the industry after years of turmoil.
Hollywood’s Political Divide
As the 2024 election heats up, the growing number of Hollywood figures declaring their political preferences underlines the industry’s divided sentiments. Kamala Harris continues to gather high-profile endorsements from entertainment heavyweights, while Trump finds support from less vocal but notable stars like Gibson. The upcoming election not only reflects America’s political divide but also highlights how prominent cultural figures wield influence over public perception and discourse
