David Colagiovanni 2011
A short hand drawn rotoscoped animation depicting Veterans for Peace member Scott Olsen after he was wounded by a non/less-lethal round by riot police on October 25, 2011 at 14th Street and Broadway in Downtown Oakland.
The original video comes from Ali Winston a reporter for KALW 91.7 FM. You can see the original video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cMUgPTCgwcQ
Reports following the incident say that google was asked to take down clips like the original by the Oakland Police department.
As I’m sure you know Citizen Journalism is the only way to actually stay informed as to what’s happening on the ground at various Occupy Wall Street Protests around the country. I’ve been following reports from people via twitter since the beginning of the occupation in New York. When the Oakland Police riots occurred I couldn’t do anything else except follow every tweet and read every article. I’ve had trouble getting any work done this past month as it has been taking up most of my time. Last week I started this animation as a way to simultaneously be more involved in the conversation and to busy myself with the endless task of drawing.
The animation above consists of 366 drawings made with water soluble pencil and water over the course of five days.
