President Donald Trump has released this video following the violence at the U.S. Capitol, saying “a new administration will be inaugurated on Jan. 20.” President Trump posted the clip to his Twitter account.
There’s one part of the video in which the president distorts the facts. When he says he “immediately deployed the National Guard,” that’s not exactly true. While President Trump was involved in earlier conversations in the days before Wednesday’s rioting, he wasn’t part of the decision-making that day. Defense leaders say they didn’t speak to the president that day. Instead, Vice President Mike Pence took the lead in helping to facilitate the mobilization of the DC National Guard.
