Protesters chanted “Allahu Akbar” outside a police station after an officer was suspended over a video showing an “attack” on a suspect.
A Greater Manchester Police officer has been suspended after he was filmed seemingly kicking and stamping on a man’s head during an incident at Manchester Airport on Wednesday.
It sparked a mass demonstration outside Rochdale Police Station after the footage was widely shared online with protestors heard shouting “Allahu Akbar”.
The Arabic words – which mean “God is the greatest” – are controversial because of their associations with extremism.
The initial incident which led to the protest took place in Terminal 2 of the airport with a video appearing to show a male officer aiming a taser at a man as he is lying on the ground.
