On the 23rd of September 2023, a confrontation erupted in Surfers Paradise, Gold Coast, Queensland, leading to a heated altercation between two men. CCTV footage captured the incident on Orchid Avenue, where one man was struck in the face in what appeared to be an unprovoked attack. The altercation continued into a nearby convenience store, where a scuffle ensued, prompting police officers to intervene. Body-worn camera footage showed officers arriving at the scene, restraining a bloodied man who repeatedly stated he was not resisting arrest. The man involved later claimed he was acting in self-defense to protect himself and his partner, and the court ultimately dismissed the charges against him, ruling there was insufficient evidence to convict.
