On Wednesday (December 4, 2024), Rahul Gandhi was stopped at the Ghazipur border in Ghaziabad on his way to Sambhal, due to prohibitory orders.
Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and other Congress leaders were stopped by a heavy police presence and barricades at tche Ghazipur border.
Prohibitory orders in Sambhal under Section 163 of BNSS have been extended until December 31, 2024.
The Congress alleges the violence in Sambhal was a well-planned conspiracy by the ruling BJP to provoke communal flare-ups ahead of the 2027 assembly elections.
U.P. police deployed barricades along the Delhi-Sambhal route, causing massive traffic jams, particularly at the Ghazipur border.
The Sambhal District Magistrate had previously written to neighboring districts requesting they stop Congress leaders from entering.
The tensions in Sambhal began after the controversial mosque survey in November, which led to clashes and violence on November 24, resulting in four deaths and multiple injuries.
