Future burglary arrest:
Around 2:08 AM on June 29, 2022, Patrolman Miguel Medina with the Deal Police Department was on patrol on Ocean Avenue and he observed a 2018 Honda being driven erratically as the driver headed northbound. He followed the vehicle and eventually activated his emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop. He notified dispatch about the traffic stop and made contact with the driver, who was identified as Shadi Khorram.
As he approached Shadi and asked for her documents, he observed indicators of impairment. She seemed to have difficulty locating all her documents. She told Patrolman Medina that she had left Long Branch, but she was headed northbound in the direction of Long Branch. Based on his suspicion of impairment, Patrolman Medina called for backup Shadi was eventually asked to perform field sobriety exercises.
Patrolman Medina started with the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test. The second exercise was the Walk and Turn test and the third exercise was the One Leg Stand test. The other officer searched her vehicle and observed prohibited items while the field sobriety tests were being administered. Based on her erratic driving, the indicators of impairment, and her inability to satisfactorily complete the field sobriety exercises, Shadi was placed under arrest for DWI.
After she was placed under arrest, her vehicle was impounded for a 12-hour hold according to John’s Law. Another officer transported Shadi to the Deal Police Department for further processing as Sergeant Brian Egan and Patrolman Medina searched the car. Shadi was criminally charged under 2C:36-2A based on the prohibited items that were found in her car. Shadi was also issued the following traffic citations: Operating under the influence, reckless driving, careless driving, failure to possess driver’s license, and traffic on marked lanes
Court records indicate that Shadi would later go on to be arrested for burglary in Holmdel on June 6, 2023 as well as Middletown on July 13, 2023. Shadi also has multiple prior arrests from other agencies including Metuchen, Ocean, Wall, and Hazlet.

North Jersey Media Group, 993 A.2d 778 (2010) that “The fair-report privilege reflects the judgment that the need, in a self-governing society, for free-flowing information about matters of public interest outweighs concerns over the uncompensated injury to a person’s reputation.” This video advances a compelling public interest. The summary of events was based on records that are “open to public view through open access to public records” as defined in the Salzano case. In Ramos v. Flowers, 429 N.J. Super. 13, the Appellate Division of the Superior Court has also affirmed the right to film law enforcement interactions.
