We visited the Dana Point USPS and the Mission Viejo USPS for a First Amendment audit. During our visit, we were accosted, harassed, and threatened with violence simply for exercising our First Amendment rights in public. This video captures the shocking behavior we encountered, highlighting the importance of safeguarding our civil liberties. Watch as we navigate these intense interactions and stand firm in defending our right to record in public spaces.
During the audit, I was spit on by an aggressive individual who fled the scene immediately after. I chose not to press charges, feeling that pursuing legal action would likely lead nowhere and consume more time and energy than it was worth.
Additionally, the video showcases several encounters with ‘Karens’ who misuse their perceived authority to intimidate and harass those of us exercising our rights. These individuals often escalate situations unnecessarily, attempting to control public spaces through intimidation and aggression.
It’s essential to remember that public photography is entirely legal in public spaces. Our right to record is protected by the First Amendment, and this video serves as a reminder of the need to respect and uphold these freedoms, even in the face of hostility and misunderstanding.
