‘SIGNIFICANT OTHERS: DANCES FOR FAMILY, FRIENDS & LOVERS’
Peter DiMuro / Public Displays of Motion have woven visual and spoken narratives of personal histories once encapsulated in time which now speak aloud in 2019, echoing thoughts and imagery from 1969’s Stonewall riots, through love and loss during the AIDS crisis, and of our current queerness borne of simpler times’ view.

Excerpts from Peter’s autobiographical “Light Reading”, set at a kitchen table, where letters to and from family are written, will be shared. Each work reveals as much through the written word as what’s revealed invisibly between the lines –including the poignant and unexpected humor found in fraught moments. Guesting in the performed letter “Donna”, Pamela Pietro and Nattie Trogdon join PDM’s intergenerational cast of women.

Alexander Davis, known as one half of the Davis Sisters (with Joy Davis), and J Michael Winward, a memoirist in words and movement, join as collaborators with Peter in two distinct works. “Night and Gay” (Davis/DiMuro) and “Gaylight Saving(s)” (Winward/DiMuro) are new works-in-development that look at an arc of time from Stonewall to this present moment, and the performers’ individual relationships to iconic landmarks in gay-life past and queer life present.

Peter DiMuro is a career-long artist, first giving voice to his own experiences growing up gay in rural America in the 60’s and 70’s as a means to bring specific attention to the AIDS crisis and to bridge the (then) very separate and polar straight and gay worlds. His tenure of fifteen years as performer/collaborator/creator and subsequently Artistic Director with Liz Lerman Dance Exchange afforded the opportunity to work in deep collaborations with individuals and communities world-wide.
