Situation intensified in Meghalaya’s Shillong on Monday after police summoned leaders of the Hynniewtrep Integrated Territorial Organisation alleging that their ‘black uniform’ constituted a violation of Section 171 CrPc.
As a sign of protest, several HITO members gathered near the State Bank of India’s main branch before proceeding to the Sadar Police Station in Shillong. The members were also seen sloganeering while condemning the police action.
The situation intensified after a clash broke out between the protestors. As per police, two Deputy Superintendent of Police suffered minor injuries after protesters resorted to pelting stones and bottles towards the police. The police had to fire tear gas shells after the HITO members tried to forcefully march towards the Main Secretariat near the Deputy Commissioner’s office. .
