SOUNDBITE: (ENGLISH) HASSAN KHAYRE, PRIME MINISTER, FEDERAL GOVERNMENT OF SOMALIA
“We wouldn’t be discussing economic progress or security sector reform without the commitment and the sacrifices made by our brothers and sisters of AMISOM and its troop contributing countries. Because of their commitment, we are where we are today and we are very grateful for the support they have rendered to our nation”.

SOUNDBITE: (ENGLISH) AMBASSADOR FRANCISCO MADEIRA, SPECIAL REPRESENTATIVE OF THE CHAIRPERSON OF THE AFRICAN UNION COMMISSION (SRCC) FOR SOMALIA
“When discussing issues of security and justice, there was a generalized consensus that law enforcement, military action and intelligence operations alone, much as they are very important, in the fight against insurgency and terrorism, do not suffice. The effort for lasting peace and security can only succeed if it takes into account all the other factors that directly and indirectly contribute to the current state of volatility, tension, violence and instability”.

“Looking ahead, we have endorsed the 2019/2020 Mutual Accountability Framework, in which we agreed the next 15 months will be crucial as Somalia Security Forces are expected to take over full security responsibilities by 2021. However, we are still confronted with the reality that time and resources continue to be our key challenges”.
