On February 25th, 2023, concerned staff at a bar in Ohio called officers about a possible drunk driver in the parking lot. The driver had been drinking at the bar with his girlfriend earlier that night before attempting to drive his girlfriend’s car home. Officers arrived outside the bar and found the driver asleep with his foot on the gas pedal while the car was still running. Officers struggled to get the driver’s attention, repeatedly knocking on the window before he responded.
Upon waking, the driver took his foot off the pedal, turning off the ignition before exiting the vehicle. After refusing to partake in Field Sobriety Tests, officers arrested the suspect for suspected OVI before placing him in a patrol car.
Officers began searching the vehicle. During the search, the driver’s girlfriend, Kara Fuller, exited the bar and started shouting at officers. Fuller became confrontational and argumentative with officers demanding a search warrant for her vehicle. Fuller began recording and shouting in the officers’ faces leading to her arrest for Obstructing Official Business and Disorderly Conduct. While being handcuffed, Fuller resisted officers’ attempts to put her in the patrol car, adding the charge of Resisting Arrest. After being placed in the patrol car Fuller was taken to jail for further processing. Fuller’s boyfriend, who initially was allowed to go home upon finding a ride, was officers decided to take him to the police department for a breath test.
