This movie is Hawaii Five-0 Detective Steve McGarrett (played by Alex O’Loughlin) is a former Medal of Honor-winning naval officer who retired as a police officer. He returns to his hometown of Oahu (the main island of the Hawaiian Islands) in order to investigate his father’s murder. The governor of Hawaii sees Steve as a rare talent and insists on keeping him on the island. She wants Steve to put together an elite team of investigators who specialize in serious cases – he sets the rules and she provides support from behind the scenes. The team, named “Five-0” (50), does not go through the motions, does not play tricks, and as long as they can catch the leader of the island’s biggest gang, they will be fine even if the sky falls down.
Steve readily agrees to the female governor’s request and starts ‘recruiting’. The first person to join the 50 is Detective Danny Williams (Scott Caan), better known as “Danno”. He used to work for the New Jersey Police Department and has only recently been transferred to the Hawaii Police Department. He enjoys the high-rise city life, and has little interest in sun, sand, and rolling coastlines. However, he has vowed to keep the island safe in order to provide a healthy upbringing for his young daughter, who is eight years old.
Then joining the cast is Chin Ho Kelly (played by Daniel Dae Kim). Formerly a detective with the Honolulu (Hawaii’s capital) Police Department, he was relegated to the Federal Security Patrol as a patrolman due to false corruption charges. He was once a protégé of McGarrett’s father.
Chin’s cousin Kono (played by Grace Park) is a Hawaiian native, tough and competitive, with a somewhat tomboyish personality. She has just graduated from the police academy and is eager to prove herself on the job, so she asks to join the “50” squad.
With the help of “50”, McGarrett vows to close the case of his father’s murder and put him to rest. At the same time, he will also lead his comrades to clear the beautiful island of all evil, so that Hawaii – the 50th state of the United States – will always be a paradise on earth!
