Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday accused the BJP of being in favour of “untouchability”.
Speaking to reporters in Delhi, he said, “They want Hindus and Muslims to fight among themselves. They were in favour of untouchability. I just got to know that these people stopped the Kanwar yatra on purpose as they are in favour of untouchability. It wasn’t just about communal issues but about untouchability.”
Akhilesh’s views come as the UP government last week deployed the Rapid Action Force (RAF), along with teams of local police and commandos of Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) in UP’s Muzaffarnagar long the Kanwar route to avoid any untoward incident.
Kanwar yatra began on Jul 22.
AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi on Saturday likened the recent Uttar Pradesh government’s orders for displaying names of eatery owners on Kanwar Yatra route to Hitler’s rule.
Addressing a public meeting at Kodangal in Telangana, he said Hitler had told Jews in Germany during his regime that they had to wear the ‘Star of David’ and that they would be boycotted.
Claiming that incidents of destroying houses of some Muslims with bulldozers in Madhya Pradesh and others are happening, he said hate has been spread against Muslims and that it is not good for the country.
