“Two Venezuelan Nationals Apprehended with 11,000 Grams of Narcotics in Police Roadblock Operation”
In a significant development, two Venezuelan nationals find themselves in police custody after a dawn operation this Monday led to the discovery of a substantial quantity of narcotics in the trunk of the motorcar they were traveling in at the western end of the Demerara Harbour Bridge.
The apprehension transpired after police officers, acting on information received around 05:15 hrs, initiated a roadblock exercise at the western end of the Demerara Harbour Bridge. It was there that they intercepted motorcar PPP 1521, which was traveling eastward and occupied by two Venezuelan nationals, 22-year-old Kevyn De Jesus and 29-year-old Marcelino Marcos, both residents of 66 David Street, Kitty.
A police corporal participating in the roadblock flagged down the vehicle, expressing his suspicions and requesting permission to conduct a thorough search of both the motorcar and its occupants.
Upon frisking both individuals, no illegal items were found on their persons. However, a subsequent search of the vehicle’s interior unveiled fifteen compressed parcels. The contents of these parcels, revealed in the presence of De Jesus and Marcos, were identified as seeds, leaves, and stems, suspected to be cannabis.
Both individuals were apprised of the charges against them and cautioned, but they chose to remain silent. Subsequently, they were arrested and accompanied to the La Parfaite Harmonie Police Station, where the seized narcotics, amounting to a total of 11,000 grams upon weighing, were also taken into custody.
Both suspects remain in police custody as the investigation progresses, with potential charges pending against them as authorities delve deeper into this narcotics-related case.
