Chaos ensued at Upington BELA Education bill hearings. When the teachers union SADTU saw that hundreds of parents had turned out to oppose the bill, they rioted, pushing around those who had come to speak. The chairman closed the meeting, not hearing parents voices and petitions. SADTU controls schools where parents have little power, and promote those loyal to the trade union to top jobs instead of those who are best for children. SADTU union has turned into the “education broederbond” of the New South Africa. They have turned out political supporters to oppose parents rights in every town with a BELA consultation, giving a false impression in the public consultation, which the ANC has used to claim support for the bill. And now when they see they will lose, they spoil the meeting instead. Some present accused SADTU and the ruling party of colluding to sabotage the meeting.
SADTU also bused in supporters to other hearings to try pack them in favour of the BELA education bill.
