On June 3, 2024 Arica Hutchison, a police officer with the Memphis Police Department located in Memphis, Tennessee was charged in Federal Court and on that same day pled guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit theft from a program receiving federal funds.
The charge stems from her actions as an officer where she had the ability to input information into the Crime Stoppers Database. It is alleged that Hutchison conspired with another individual to steal $18,500 from the crime stoppers. It is alleged that Hutchison would change information in the database that would allow the other individual to accept the cash reward from the crime stopper’s tipline.
Hutchinson was put on leave in February 2024 and resigned in April 2024. Hutchison was sentenced to 6 months in prison and 2 years supervision/probation as well as ordered to pay $22,000 in restitution. Hutchinson had been employed with MPD for 17 years.
You are advised that a charge is merely an accusation and that a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
