On 01/06/2022,
Officers responded to a call in reference to a fight in progress. Upon arrival officers made contact with the victim and he stated that he was at the bus stop at this location when the suspect accused him of taking $80 USD from him. The victim stated that the male then swung at him with a closed fist making contact with his face several times so the victim defended himself. The victim stated that the male then grabbed a lid to a nearby trashcan and began striking him in the head/face with it.
The officer observed the victim to have a cut on his lip that was actively bleeding, a swollen right eyebrow and a lacerated right eye
The victim pointed at the suspect as the one that hit him. Officers attempted to make contact with the suspect, he appeared to be intoxicated due to slurred speech. He was given a lawful command to sit on a park bench at this location and was advised that he was not free to leave. The suspect approach the officer initially with his hands up, He stated that he was “his mama’s son” The suspect then got into a fighting stance towards the officers, He then got into a fighting stance and faced OFC Echols threatening to kick OFC Echols. The decision was made by me to detain the suspect due to him issuing the threat to kick OFC Echols and being physically disorderly by displaying a fighting stance. The suspect physically resisted OFC Echols, Ofc Holloman and myself by refusing to put his hands behind his back. He was then forced in to handcuff (BB/DBL).
The suspect was then transported to the Clarke County Jail without further incident, but was rejected at the jail. He was later transported to the Clarke County Jail.
The victim was transported to Piedmont Athens Region to seek treatment for his injuries.
