Nate and I carried our camp in early. Solid 7+ mile climb into the majestic Winds. Marshy Grove cafe we called ourselves that year. Appropriately, we’d found an island looking westerly towards main circle. One beautiful site at a Gathering. This is the year riot police attacked Kiddie Village. Commandoed down through the forest, with M-15(rubber bullets) mobbing hillside towards K.V. I watched part of it happen. We camped next to K.V. The L.E.O.s, that year, like troops. Helicopters at day roaring above. But the site was sick! The music was amazing. The drum circle was a three leveled amphitheater. Mud, logs. Massive center firepit. One of the greatest, rudest structures ever. I remember some insane drumming that Gathering. All night. Strong participants! Watched Stinky Pete for the first time. Blew my mind. Like WY, the site was huge. The hiking continual. The ascents always. Some complained ’bout that? Mommas had to walk far. Granola Funk to main circle was several valleys, pitchy mountain trails. Hmm, heaven.
This is the first year we shared tea with everyone who cruised near our camp. This has been a tradition since. Lot’s of tea, always, Rainbow rules. Own cup, pour below the pot. Vegas Cafe had a drummer squad!!!Wow, great mother%$*&^%@ time in the woods. No money exchanged anywhere. Everyone eats once a day. Family, that’s how we roll…
